GSI™ : Advertising Currency You Can Take To The Bank

Recently an Internet Marketing Company pitched me that if I advertised thru their Programmatic Ad Exchange, they could guarantee me 1 million impressions.

Ignoring for the moment the meaning of such abstract terminology as Programmatic and Impressions, I imagined what such a result would mean in the real business world.

Let’s just say l bought this newfangled Programmatic Ad Exchange thingy. And lo and behold l received my 1 million impressions.

 I could see myself happily going to the bank to make a deposit and the scene going something like this;

 Mark: Good afternoon, l would like to make a deposit!

 Bank Teller: Sure, how much would you like to deposit today?

 Mark:1 million.

 Bank Teller: Yes sir, 1 million dollars!

 Mark: Umm ..no, that’s 1 million impressions.

 Well, l am sure you can imagine the bank not being very impressed! Yet businesses buy advertising just this way everyday, presumably to make money, then settle for results they can’t deposit in the bank.

This same scenario could easily take place if you substituted the term “impressions” for views, clicks, ratings, GRPs, CPMs, C1, C3, C7,  or any of the ever increasingly new and complex jargon that is proliferating the advertising world, with no end in sight.
